The Butler Institute of American Art opens two-story gallery Saturday
The Butler Institute of American Art is opening a two-story gallery Saturday evening.
The $2 million Vincent and Phyllis Bacon Grand Gallery was designed by C. Robert Buchanan and is 3,810 square feet.
It's located in front of the Beecher Center, which is a three-story wing on the south side of The Butler.
The new wing opens on April 15 at 6 p.m. with a reception.
"This is one of those very special moments in the history of The Butler," said Director Louis Zona. "We are excited about its unveiling on this momentous evening. In all, the new Vincent and Phyllis Bacon will add much to an already handsome facility. The spectacular exhibition galleries relate closely to The Butler's historic neoclassical structure that, in the words of C. Robert Buchanan, is a 'jewel box.'"
The opening exhibition contains A Tribute to Pierre Soulages and Paul Jenkins. On the lower level, visitors can find A Final Look: Selections from the Private Collection of David M. and Cecile Draime.
The Butler Institute of American Art can be found on Youngstown State University's campus at 524 Wick Avenue.
