Grant covers cost of Perry Township sewage service extension project

PERRY TOWNSHIP, Mercer Co. Pa - State funding has been approved for work on sewage service lines in Perry Township.
The $726,200 grant covers the full cost of the project that will extend sewage service from the current main line at the intersection of U.S. Route 19 and State Route 1001 to the U.S. Route 19 right-of-way.
According to the release, this extension will update and install nearly 5,800 feet of low-pressure sewer main as part of Perry Township's Hadley wastewater treatment plant renovation.
Grinder pumps, an equalization tank and an emergency generator will be installed as well.
“The Commodore Perry School District’s wastewater treatment plant is currently in a state of severe disrepair and at risk for failure. This grant will allow the district to connect to the township system, which will preserve public health without adding costs to our residents,” State Senator Michele Brooks (R-50) said.
State Representative Tim Bonner (R-Mercer) said customer rates could have increased by 39 percent if the grant did not cover the entire project.
The funding comes from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority.
