State asks that imprisoned former Niles mayor forfeit pension until court costs are covered

The state of Ohio Senior Assistant Ohio Attorney General Daniel Kasaris filed a motion against former Niles Mayo Ralph Infante for court costs of $51,158.32 from his 2018 conviction.
Infante, 67, was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of tampering with records, gambling, operating a gambling house, theft in office, having an unlawful interest in a public contract, falsification, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
The court filing is seeking $4,000 to be withheld per month from Infante's OPERS pension fund until restitution and the court costs are paid, which totals $999 for the city of Niles in addition to the $51,158.
Infante has been in the Lorain Correctional Institution since May 2018.
