From womb to degree: Grove City College grad crosses the commencement stage twice

A woman who received her degree from Grove City College on Saturday could make a claim that none of her fellow 434 graduates could make that day.
Grace Sabella was on that stage 21 years before with her mother, Melissa, who insisted on being at commencement in 2002 to accept her degree even though she was experiencing labor contractions at the time.
Grace was born a few hours later.
“I had worked so hard (for my degree) in the past four years, and I just wanted to be there,” Melissa said in an alumni magazine story from the time.
Grace said that her mom put her Elementary Education degree to good use, homeschooling Grace and her nine siblings.
The Grove City College tradition continued for Grace.
“I think my first Grove City merch was a ‘Future Grover’ onesie that I wore as a baby. My parents came back to campus for homecoming and took us to the parade often, so I have some really fun memories of being on campus as a kid. The community here is honestly what made me ultimately choose Grove City – with a little encouragement from my parents, of course,” she said.
