Memorial service held in Salem for officers killed in the line of duty

A memorial service was held in Salem Thursday afternoon to honor police officers killed in the line of duty.
The National Peace Officers Memorial Service was hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police Quaker Lounge 88 at the Timberlanes Complex at noon.
FOP Quaker Lounge 88 President and Salem police officer, Michael Garber tells 21 News it's important to honor the people who give so much to the community.
"It's a horrible thing that has to happen this day and age. People [are] getting killed senselessly the way they are, but at the same time we have to do our due diligence and pay our fallen officers the proper respects," Garber said.
Local officers honored include Justin Leo of Girard PD, Lt. Charles Shaffer of Salem PD and Michael Hartzell of Youngstown PD.
