DeWine authorizes sending 14 Ohio State Troopers to Texas border

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is sending troopers and supervisors to Texas in the coming weeks.
Governor Mike DeWine's Office announced Thursday that a 14-trooper contingent from the OSHP will head to the border in Texas to help local law enforcement with surveillance of the area.
The move comes after a request for assistance from Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
The 14 troopers will spend two weeks at the border but will not make arrests during that time.
This is the second time an OSHP team has been sent to the Texas border. The first time state troopers were there was July 2021.
Ohio has had a presence at the border since October 2020 when Governor DeWine sent more than 100 members of the Ohio National Guard at the request of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Guard Bureau.
According to the release, DeWine has deployed nearly 325 National Guard members to Texas. 150 of those guard members are still at the border on active duty.
Another rotation of 50 guard members is scheduled to travel to Texas this October.
