City of Struthers to adopt a plan to give residents a voice on what they want for city

STRUTHERS, Ohio - The City of Struthers will be adopting a plan that would put the future of the city in the hands of its residents.
21 News caught up with Struthers Mayor Catherine Cercone Miller about the Discover Struthers program, which is set to be adopted at Wednesday night's city council meeting.
Mayor Miller tells 21 News that the plan is "very needed" for the city, as Struthers has never before had a plan or guideline on how to engage with residents to see what they want for their community.
Miller says city officials have conducted multiple meetings with residents including special meetings with senior citizens at Mauthe Park and even visited Struthers High School to see what the students want in the community.
Mayor Miller tells us that the responses from all these demographics were very similar, with common requests being downtown developments, developments to the river area, adding more gathering places, senior and youth centers and park improvements.
Miller says it's her hope that this program will not only allow for residents' voices to be heard, but also allow for new businesses to come to the city and make the city more appealing for those looking to move there.
Additionally, Mayor Miller says this program would allow the city to apply for bigger grants because it would show grant awarders that the city has a clearer idea of where it is headed.
The program is set to be adopted at a city council meeting at 6:15 pm.
