Ohio & Mahoning Valley - Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has allocated an additional $250,000 for food pantries across Ohio.

This is the result of a $400,000 settlement over price discrepancies at discount stores such as Family Dollar.

$250,000 of that settlement money will be going to food banks or other similar charities to purchase and distribute food and personal-care items with the beneficiaries chosen by county auditors.

This is in addition to $750,000 going to food banks from a $1 million settlement with Dollar General, another discount store found to have discrepancies in its pricing.

"Our county auditors play a vital role in making sure that retailers operating in Ohio have fair and honest pricing. That's why we're partnering with the auditors and channeling settlements dollars back into our communities," Yost said.

The settlement involved Family Dollar and Dollar General listing an item for one price on the shelf but charging a different higher price for it at the register. This is a violation of the Ohio Consumer Protection Sales Act.
