Funding announced for support for pregnant, post-partum women in Mahoning, Trumbull Counties

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has announced on Tuesday that over $188,000 has been awarded to support pregnant and post-partum women in the Valley.
According to a press release, Cuyahoga County-based organization The Village of Healing has been awarded a total of $188,525 to support the mental health needs of pregnant and post-partem women.
While the organization is based in Cuyahoga County, both Mahoning and Trumbull Counties have been listed as proposed counties of service for this funding.
According to The Village of Healing's website, the organization describes itself as "the first and only clinic for Black women in Cuyahoga County and will serve as a venue for women in need of access to gynecological, antepartum, and post-partum care."
The funding is part of $5 million awarded to 19 community and faith-based organizations to improve supports to pregnant women and newly-parenting families.
“Giving all Ohioans the best possible start in life truly begins before a child is even born and that means ensuring the child’s family has access to the resources and support they need,” Governor DeWine said.
Additionally, DeWine awarded a $349,999 statewide grant for Baby's 1st Network, which would provide safe sleep and breastfeeding information, as well as convene birthing professionals, community-based home visitors, early childcare providers and representatives from community-based organizations.
