Youngstown Police are currently investigating after an inmate of a Youngstown prison was stabbed several times on Wednesday.

Youngstown Police Captain Jason Simon tells 21 News the incident involved one male inmate stabbing another male inmate several times in the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center (NEOCC) around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim was transported to the hospital where we're told he's in stable condition. Meanwhile, the suspect remains incarcerated at NEOCC. At this time, no charges have been filed.

Brian Todd, manager of Public Affairs of CoreCivic, said medical staff treated the injured inmate and called EMS to take him to the hospital. They say the inmate is expected to be released back to NEOCC.

U.S. Marshals were notified of the incident and it remains under investigation.
