The Mahoning County Engineer announced the projects are scheduled to begin next year and due to federal guidelines the projects must be complete in 50 months.

In 2025 the Market Street Bridge which leads into and out of Youngstown is scheduled to have structural and surface upgrades, repairs to cracks in cement that protects the steel structure.

Fencing will be added to the bridge and repairs will be made to it's drainage system.

Plus the repairs will be made underneath and to the support structures under the bridge.

"We go through a series of maintenance projects over the years, waterproofing, you will often see we paint and rehab bridges. All of that extends the life of the structure, the steel, the concrete, things of that nature," Mahoning Engineer Patrick Ginnetti said.

When needed traffic is expected to be limited to one lane each way.

The cost of the rehabiliatation project set to begin April 2025 and complete by August 2026 is 3.3 million dollars.

Another major project the Mahoning Avenue Industrial Corridore includes some upgrades to some intersections, some pavement redesign, and a bridge project. It runs from Mahoning Avenue from State Route 45 to Duck Creek Road.

And Rosemont Road from Mahoning Avenue to Blott Road in Jackson Township.

"It seems like it's growing into an industrial like section. The road was not engineered to handle industrial type traffic, so we are in the process of upgrading that. We are going to widen the road and beef up the pavement," Ginnetti added.

The county expects some road closures and detours for the heavily traveled section of Mahoning Avenue.

The 5.3 million dollar project is set to begin January 2025 and be complete by November 2026.

The Federal Economic Development Grant dollars are helping pave the way for smoother and safer roads and bridges.

Ginnetti tells WFMJ News he realizes it will be an inconvenience and asks that all drivers put your phones down, and watch out for workers who want to go home safely to their families.
