The New Castle Police Department has issued a reminder to civilian-led "To Catch A Predator" groups to leave the catching of potential predators to them.

According to a post on the New Castle Police Department's Facebook page, the only way for a potential sexual predator to be charged is if there is an actual juvenile victim or if an officer is the one posing as the juvenile.

Police went on to say that these groups are actually "doing a disservice" to the community by not reporting the case to law enforcement or getting them involved.

"We would ask for any of these groups, or the public in general, to contact law enforcement immediately when these types of interactions occur online so a proper investigation can be conducted and suspects can be criminally charged, if applicable," the post reads.
