EAST PALESTINE, Ohio - Some students in the East Palestine City School District paid a visit to Columbus on Thursday for a culinary trip to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's residence.

According to a press release, a personal invitation was extended to students in the district's Culinary Fundamentals and Bulldog Cafe program for the culinary trip of a lifetime.

Once the students were escorted into the governor's home, the day began with a hands-on cooking session where the students learned new recipes and cooking techniques from First Lady Fran DeWine and a chef on staff.

The group prepared a portion of the luncheon served that afternoon.

From there, the students were given a tour of the residence from the property's historian. The students learned about the history of the home including its previous occupants, its architectural features and its significance in Ohio's history.

The students were then given a tour of the Heritage Garden from Fran DeWine where they explored the garden and talked with the gardeners about their work.

The day wrapped up with a guided tour of the Statehouse where the students learned about the history of the building, its significance in American politics and the important decisions made in the building.

"Seeing my students fully engaged in this unique experience, could not have made me any more proud/" They positively represented our school and the community of East Palestine, and we are so thankful for this once in a lifetime opportunity that the Governor and First Lady presented. It was unforgettable," said teacher Abi Miller.
