Boardman woman accused of child endangering after child found crying, sweating in car

BOARDMAN, Ohio - A Boardman woman is accused of endangering children after police say she left a child alone in a car for an extended period of time.
According to a police report, the incident happened Friday, August 9 shortly after 3:00 p.m. in a plaza on Boardman-Canfield Road that housed the Ohio BMV, Dollar Tree and Save-A-Lot.
Police say a woman overheard a child crying in a vehicle and found the child in question sitting in a car seat in the back of a vehicle. The woman went into the BMV to see who owned the vehicle, but the owner was not inside.
Police say the woman started going into various businesses for nearly 30 minutes trying to find out who owned the vehicle until she found two people opening the trunk to get the child out.
One man who helped get the child out told police he went outside after the woman went into the BMV asking about the child. Police say the child told him he did not know where his mother was and he wanted to get out of the car.
The man told police once the child was out of the car, he was squirming and said he had to go to the bathroom.
That's when the child's mother, who police identified as 31-year-old Kari Harris came out of Cricket Wireless. She told police she left the child in the car because he was napping.
According to the report, the woman went into Cricket Wireless at 3:13 p.m. and left at 3:35 p.m.
Harris was charged with one count of endangering children. She was arraigned on this charge Tuesday morning.
The child was placed in the custody of his grandfather.
