Report: Norfolk Southern's CEO under investigation for alleged 'inappropriate' work relationship

The man who became the face of Norfolk Southern Railroad after the fiery derailment and chemical spill in East Palestine is reportedly under investigation for an alleged inappropriate workplace relationship.
Citing people familiar with the matter, MSNBC reported that the railroad’s board of directors is examining allegations that CEO Alan Shaw engaged in an inappropriate workplace relationship.
On Sunday, Norfolk Southern issued a statement acknowledging that the board has opened an investigation into “allegations of potential conduct by CEO Alan Shaw that is inconsistent with the company's Code of Ethics and company policy.”
“Norfolk Southern holds all its team members to the highest standards. In line with the company's Code of Conduct and company policy, allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated. The code also includes resources for employees to anonymously report concerns, including through the Ethics & Compliance Hotline,” according to the company statement.
The statement says the railroad has retained a law firm to conduct an independent investigation of the allegations.
Shaw has frequently appeared on television and has been quoted in print news media to present updates on Norfolk Southern’s response to the February 3, 2023, derailment in East Palestine and subsequent cleanup efforts.
Earlier this year, Shaw survived an activist investor’s bid to take over the railroad’s board and replace management.
