Tuesday bankruptcy hearing to weigh deal keeping Mahoning Valley Steward hospitals open

DALLAS - A bankruptcy court judge in Dallas will hold a hearing Tuesday afternoon on the deal to keep Steward Health’s facilities open in Trumbull and Mahoning Counties.
Judge Christopher Lopez has scheduled a 3:30 p.m. EST hearing to consider details about an agreement announced last month that permitted Trumbull Regional Medical Center, Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital, and four satellite facilities to avoid a shutdown.
The closings would have left more than 900 employees without jobs.
Under the agreement, the owner of the hospital properties, Medical Properties Trust, Inc., will take over operating costs while Steward transitions to new owners Steward agreed to repay existing debts as part of the agreement.
Steward Health began winding down hospital operations in Trumbull County last month but has since re-opened and is again accepting patients.
