21 News to host Mahoning Co. Prosecutor debate on October 15

21 News will be hosting a debate between the two candidates looking to head up the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office — Democrat and incumbent Gina DeGenova and Republican Lynn Maro.
The debate will be held in the WFMJ Studios on October 15 at 7 p.m. It will be streamed live on wfmj.com and the WFMJ Facebook page. The debate will also be available for viewing afterwards on the WFMJ YouTube page, the 21 news app, and wfmj.com.
21 News 5pm anchor Lindsay McCoy will moderate the debate.
21 News Director Sheila Miller said, "With the tense political season we are experiencing right now, voters more than ever need a constructive dialogue between candidates. 21 News is poised to provide that meaningful dialogue."
The election will be on November 5, with early voting beginning on October 8. The last date to register to vote for the General Election in Ohio is October 7.
ABOUT THE CANDIDATES
Gina DeGenova: A life-long Valley native, DeGenova grew up in Niles and graduated from Niles McKinley High School. DeGenova received her four-year degree from Youngstown State University and received her juris doctorate from Cleveland Marshall School of Law.
DeGenova worked as a general civil attorney in private practice prior to joining the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office in 2005. She was the county's litigation counsel and lead counsel for the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office, the Board of Commissioners, and other elected officials. She became Mahoning County's Chief Assistant Prosecutor and was named County Prosecutor after Paul Gains retired in November 2022.
Lynn Maro: Born in Youngstown, Maro graduated from Ursuline High School. She earned her 4-year degree from YSU and her law degree from the University of Akron School of Law.
She worked as a civil litigation attorney at a private practice in Akron before joining the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office in the civil division until 1996. Maro currently works in her own private practice along with her husband, attorney Jonathan Schoenike. Their law firm handles civil, criminal, and appellate work.
