Folks living in Mahoning or Trumbull County looking to recycle their Christmas trees will be able to do so free of charge thanks to a local junk removal service.

Express Junk Removal in Youngstown has announced its 5th Annual Christmas Tree Pickup event, which will take place Thursday, January 9 and Friday, January 10.

The company will be offering a complimentary Christmas tree removal service for residents of Mahoning and Trumbull Counties. However, there are some rules to be aware of.

The trees must be placed at the curbside one day before pickup and must not have any ornaments, lights, garland, tinsel, etc. on them. The service does not accept artificial trees, flocked trees or wreaths.

According to a press release, most of the donated trees have the opportunity to be used as natural fish habitats in local lakes, providing an eco-friendly alternative to standard waste disposal.

Anyone interested in recycling their Christmas tree can sign up for the service by clicking here. The company is not accepting sign-ups over the phone in order to keep lines open for customers who need other services.

The company was able to save about 300 trees from going into a landfill last year.

Bob's Tree Service in Warren is accepting tree drop-offs during their regular business hours, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Like Express Junk Removal, this is for live trees only and no decorations are allowed on the trees.
