Heavy flooding affecting resident properties in Champion Township

Residents in the area of Champion Township are dealing with heavy flooding following rainfall Friday.
One resident in the 6000 block of Downs Road NW says that he is worried water may flood his septic tank, which could cause back-flooding into the home.
Another resident in the 6000 block of Schaffer Road NW said that 0.7 acres of her property is underwater.
Video sent in by the residents of the home on Schaffer Road NW show heavy flooding to the surrounding area - a bridge that normally crosses a creek is nearly completely submerged according to the resident taking the video.
A 21 News videographer in the area spoke to other neighbors. One neighbor says that although the area normally floods after heavy rainfall, this is the fastest they have seen it happen.
21 News reached out to Champion Township Trustee Rex Fee for comment on the situation in the township.
"This isn't a township-specific issue... This is the result of a rain event that took place over a number of days. There was nowhere for the water to be absorbed after water ways and other bodies in the area backed up."
21 News also spoke with the Champion Township Fire Department to see what safety procedures were available to residents who may be experiencing flooding within the home.
For anyone experiencing flooding, residents are encouraged to call the fire department if the water is approaching utility elements of a home's basement, such as a furnace or electrical panel.
