Several roads in Youngstown to close temporarily for 'Sole to City' marathon

YOUNGSTOWN - Several roads in Youngstown are set to close temporarily on June 1 for the Youngstown Marathon Foundation's Sole to City Half-Marathon and 2-Mile Run.
According to the marathon website, the race begins at Second Sole, 755 Boardman Canfield Road, and travels through Mill Creek Park before ending in downtown Youngstown.
According to a news release from Mill Creek MetroParks, the temporary closures are to protect participant and spectator safety. The closures will be in places from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 1.
The following roads will be closed to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians:
- East Golf Hike & Bike Trail
- East Newport Hike & Bike Trail
- East Newport Drive
- Kreider's Entrance (to East Newport Drive)
- Kiwatha Road (to East Newport Drive)
- East Park Drive
- Valley Drive (after The Flats toward Lanterman's Mill)
- West Cohasset Drive
- Old Furnace Road (between West Cohasset Drive and Ford Nature Center)
- New Cross Drive
- Cross Drive
- Bears Den Road
- West Park Drive
- Birch Hill Drive
- East Park Hike & Bike Trail
- East Cohasset Hike & Bike Trail
- Robinson Hill Drive
- Memorial Hill Drive (heading to Slippery Rock Bridge)
- West Glacier Drive
- Price Road
- Calvary Run Drive
- Fellows Drive
- Lanterman's Mill
There are several areas that will be available with limited access, including:
- Ford Nature Center, available via Volney Road from Glenwood Avenue
- Fellows Riverside Gardens will be open with access via McKinley Avenue
- The Flats will remain open with access via High Drive
The Sole to City Half-Marathon and 2-Mile Run, according to the release, is to bring runners together to experience the beauty of Mill Creek MetroParks while promoting health, wellness and community spirit.
