Postal carriers participate in the largest one-day food drive
The largest one-day food drive in the United States took place on Saturday.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The largest one-day food drive in the United States took place on Saturday. And, thanks to Valley Postal Carriers, you didn't even have to leave your home if you wanted to contribute.
Postal Carriers came back from their routes with extra cargo on the second Saturday in May.
"We send out about 200,000 post cards for delivery, we're pretty expansive. Up north to Cortland, south to East Liverpool so we cover a lot of little branches," said letter carrier Ron Ruchtie.
The postal workers then deliver the food to four local food banks and shelters in the valley.
More than 50 million people face hunger every day in America, including nearly 17 million children.
"This time of year are when schools are letting out. You have a lot of needy families. Children aren't getting the free breakfasts and lunches at school, so the food pantries around the area are more needy this time of year," said NALC 385 President Henry Gomez. Nearly 1,500 NALC branches in all 50 states are involved in the food drive, and have delivered more than one billion pounds of food over the past 22 years.
Gomez said, "We get more and more enthusiastic about it every year, and they go out and do a great job".
The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has received many accolades, including two Presidential Certificates of Achievement.
