Authorities are trying to untangle the circumstances surrounding an alleged robbery that resulted in a chase that traveled through Trumbull County and ended on Youngstown's north side.

Trumbull 9-1-1 received a call at around 11:45 a.m. Friday from a man who said he was following a car involved in an armed robbery.

The caller told the dispatcher that he was at a gas station at Interstate 80 and Salt Springs Road when a man armed with a pistol jumped into his car and robbed him of $1,100.

The caller says the suspect jumped into a silver Chevy Cobalt containing two other men, then drove away.

The alleged victim called 9-1-1 and began to follow the Cobalt along I-80, then Belmont Avenue and several side streets in Liberty.

The caller claims that one of the men in the car pointed the gun at him several times when he was following them.

Liberty Police joined the chase which ended at the corner of Granada and Coronado on Youngstown's north side.

Police are questioning the three men and the 9-1-1 caller.

Although the gas station where the robbery allegedly occurred is located in Weathersfield Township, authorities tell 21 News that the Austintown Police Department is investigating the incident because they have information that the crime was actually committed in Austintown.

Austintown Police detectives are saying little about the investigation.
