Struthers filmmaker tackles the subject of cancer

Posted: Updated:
STRUTHERS, Ohio -

A local independent filmmaker just finished his latest movie. It's called "Jackie and the Rabbit's Foot."

Local filmmaker Brian West says he wanted to make a movie about and dedicated to those who have fought cancer.  He says his grandfather lost a battle to cancer years ago.

"There are better treatments out there and a lot of people don't know. They think chemotherapy is the only route and a lot of doctors have lost their license trying to find better treatments. So that is what this movie is about," said West.

West used all local actors and crew to make "Jackie and the Rabbit's Foot" happen.

"One character, Doctor Reggie, he runs an underground experiment where he rebels against the establishment of doctors and all of these characters come together to help him find a cure for cancer. The movie has a twist to it," said West.

West hopes this film can get noticed and maybe lead to bigger and better things.

"The goal is to draw more awareness to the cause and to try and bring more people into the independent atmosphere so we can get a big budget film," West said.

The 50-minute film will be shown at the Fairview Theater in Struthers Friday at 7 pm. The $15 admission covers a meal and other entertainment as well.
