Brookfield police are looking for more information surrounding an ATV and motorcycle crash that has left one man hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police say 63-year-old Charles Costea of Masury was driving a motorcycle northbound on the State Route 82 on-ramp to U-62. An ATV was driving southbound on the ramp and hit the motorcycle head-on.

Authorities say the driver of the ATV left the scene of the crash before police arrived.

Police say Costea was taken from the scene to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries.

Brookfield Police Chief Dan Faustino said ATVs are not allowed on the road. Authorities also say this isn't the first time an ATV has caused an accident on a roadway.

"They call them off-road vehicles for a reason. That's why they don't permit them on the road. They are not lighted to be on the roadway and you're not expecting to see them on the roadway. So if you're driving a car, truck or motorcycle, you're not looking for an ATV especially coming the wrong way in your lane," said Chief Faustino.

Troopers on the scene believe there were three ATVs driving the wrong way and the riders seemed intoxicated.

Dispatchers believe the ATV drivers may also be injured.

Troopers said the motorcycle driver was not wearing a helmet during the time of the crash.

Any witnesses of the crash are asked to contact the Ohio State Highway Patrol at 330-898-2311.

The crash remains under investigation.
