A normal morning drive to school turned tragic for a Lowellville student and parent on Thursday.

The father and son both were killed in a roll-over accident just before 7:30 a.m.

The heavily damaged Jeep Wranger ended up on it's side on Wilson Avenue at Sixth Street. The highway patrol identified the victims as 41-year old Paul Mike Pickett and 11-year old Marcus Pickett. Also in the vehicle, a daughter, 12-year old Leena Pickett who was taken to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The sister of the driver said she had to come here just to see where it happened. After walking around the crash scene, Rebecca Pickett talked about her brother.

"My brother was a good devoted father and a loving brother," she said.

She said her nephew, who was in the fifth grade in Lowellville, was a good student who enjoyed soccer and music.   "My nephew Marcus Pickett he was so good, he was the sweetest boy,".

It was just after 7:30 a.m. when for unknown reasons the vehicle ran off the road while coming down the Sixth Street hill, struck an embankment, became airborne and flipped over. The highway patrol says the investigation will include any possible medical issue for the driver or anything mechanical with the vehicle.
"The coroner will do their full investigation like they would with any un-natural death.  We of course will look at all possibilities that could have contributed to the vehicle leaving the road and subsequently crashing," a patrol spokesman said.
