Youngstown City Council has voted to approve a $500,000 settlement for two major suits involving the city Wednesday night.

As a result of this settlement, $440,000 out of $500,000 of that money will be paid to the owners of The Enclave student housing complex on Youngstown State University's campus.

This settlement stems from a lawsuit filed by the developers of the building, who sued the city back in 2023 alleging a breach of contract.

In the suit, the developers stated that they had been awarded a $500,000 grant for a water infrastructure project back in 2017, but have only been paid $60,000 worth of that grant funding.

This settlement would cover the remaining balance of $440,000.

The remaining $80,000 will be paid to the owners of the property that held Anthony's By the River on Oak Hill Avenue, which was ordered to be demolished back in 2020.

The owners called the demolition of the property "unconstitutional" because it was demolished just one day after the order was given to do so and the owners were not granted a hearing before or after the building was demolished.

The owners further claimed the building posed no danger to anyone or anything and ordered the city to pay the cost of the demolition.
