WARREN, Ohio - The demolition of the Reeves Building on West Market Street in Warren is underway.

Mayor Doug Franklin touched on the historic building being torn down during Tuesday's State of the City address.

Franklin announced that an unnamed but well-known lodging facility will take its place.

"This site is expected to be the home of a future hotel, and it's a chain that's not currently in our market, but you'll recognize the chain when you see it," Franklin said.

The Reeves building has been a fixture in Warren since the 1920s but has sat vacant for the last 10 to 15 years.

21 News reported in October 2019 that the property was sold for $610,000 to a developer who planned to create remodeled apartments and storefronts at the building.

Those plans never came to fruition and within five years the Reeves Building went from being an investment property to landing on the demolition list.
