CHIGNIK LAKE, Alaska- Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to find out if a former Mercer County resident was killed by wild animals in Alaska.

The body of Candice Berner, 32, was found off of a gravel road in Chignik Lake, where she had lived since August,  on Tuesday.

Authorities said it appeared she had been attacked by wolves.

Berner, a 1996 graduate of Grove City High School, moved to Alaska to work as a special education teacher.

Tom Bell, assistant superintendent of Grove City schools, said Berner was uncharacteristically focused on her future.

"A lot of times high school students don't know quite what they are doing, but I think in the back of her mind she always wanted to be a special ed teacher. She always wanted to work with disadvantaged students and make a difference in the world," Bell said.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the official cause of death.
