YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- Retired mall developer Anthony Cafaro, Sr., appeared at the Mahoning county jail Thursday morning to be booked on 14 criminal charges stemming from a public corruption probe surrounding the county's purchase of the Oakhill Renaissance Center.
Cafaro was indicted along with seven others for allegedly conspiring to keep the department of jobs and family services in the Cafaro-owned McGuffey Plaza on Garland Avenue instead of moving to the Oakhill facility.
Cafaro said he is determined to fight the charges, calling them politically-motivated.
He said his opposition to the Oakhill purchase is because he believes it is a bad deal for taxpayers.
