SALEM, Ohio-A longtime venue for racing enthusiasts is going on the auction block.

Quaker City Raceway, which was purchased in 1999 by Dan Swindell, will go to the highest bidder.

"We're going to keep some of the real estate here and we're going to retire here. It's time to let someone younger take over," Swindell said.

Previous attempts to sell the dragstrip have not come to fruition, including a plan by the city of Salem to use the property for an industrial park.

That plan did not move forward after annexation efforts failed.

Swindell also tried to auction the property in 2007, but was unable to find a buyer.

All of the equipment will also be auctioned off and Swindell hopes the new owner keeps it as a racetrack, although said there are many other possible uses for the mostly industrial land.

The auction is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19.
