MINERAL RIDGE, Ohio - It's not something you can do everyday. In fact it's only been done once before in its 75 year history.

On Saturday, nearly a thousand people brought their fishing poles to Meander Reservoir to fish its waters.

Families were able to apply for a permit to fish there a few weeks ago through The Vindicator.

Normally, the reservoir is off limits to fishermen in an effort to keep the water debris free. "We're doing it to give some appreciation back to the public and to show them we are friendly out here and we're keeping their water clean and pure for them"said Brenda Duffett from the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District.

The first time fishermen were allowed to cast from the reservoir's banks was in 2007.
