UPDATED: One dead, 11 wounded in shootings near YSU Fraternity
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown police are investigating a shooting near the campus of Youngstown State Unversity on Indiana Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio-Youngstown police and the Mahoning County Violent Crimes Task Force have arrested two suspects in a deadly shooting just off the Youngstown State University campus.
The names of the suspects have not been released yet and the investigation remains ongoing.
Jamail Johnson, 25,a YSU student, was killed and 11 others, including six students, were injured in the shooting, which took place around 3:30 a.m. at a gathering with members of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
Youngstown mayor Jay Williams said the shooting appears to have happened following a fight at the fraternity house.
"The fact is, these individuals left the party, then decided, because they were removed from a party, to go back and retaliate," Williams said.
Eight of the 11 people who were injured have since been released from the hospital.
YSU President Cynthia Anderson spend the morning at the hospital with the students and their families.
Ohio governor John Kasich will take part in a conference at YSU on Monday with YSU president Cynthia Anderson, Youngstown mayor Jay Williams and Youngstown police chief Jimmy Hughes.
