NILES, Ohio - Niles fire fighters were busy Friday afternoon battling an apartment fire at the Carnegie Apartment Complex on Youll Road.

The blaze broke out on top of a stove in the kitchen of a third floor apartment. The resident was home at the time and walked into the kitchen to get something to drink when he noticed flames.

He pounded on doors in the building alerting tenants. Fortunately there was only one other tenant in the building and everyone got out safely.

"It's a two bedroom apartment and it's heavily damaged. When the crew got here, there was fire in the living room, kitchen and coming out the door into the hallway," Rodney Ferell, Niles Fire Department Lieutenant.

Management of the 12-unit complex made accommodations for residents to stay somewhere else for the night.
