WARREN, Ohio - Warren police are investigating what happened to at least five thousand dollars missing from the school district's finances.

Superintendent Dr. Bruce Thomas says the missing funds were discovered during a routine audit.

The district filed a police report after discovering 27-hundred dollars missing. Now officials believe it to be more.

The money came from football games and other fall athletic events. Both the district and police are investigating how it happened.

"The district will conduct an internal investigation to the office of human resources and the treasurer's office. That will provide us an opportunity to do our own internal audit and also go through any personnel records related to the deposits, or lack of deposits of the funds," Thomas said.

The district placed the employee in charge of those funds on paid administrative leave. No one has been charged with the theft.
