WARREN, Ohio - Detectives are investigating a deadly home invasion in Warren.

Police were called to a house in the 400 block of Oak Street SW shortly after 12 p.m. Thursday, for a report of a male and a female who had been shot.

The male victim, Jeremy Cole, 21, of Warren, died from his injuries. Cole is described as a friend of the female resident who was helping her move into the home Thursday. The Trumbull County Coroner's Office has scheduled his autopsy for Friday morning.

A family friend identified the wounded woman as Melissa Putnam.

Putnam's friend says Melissa had moved out of the home within the past few weeks, because she feared for her family's safety. The friend says Putnam was shot in the hand and couldn't think of a reason why she was a target.

"She said that somebody had broken into the house, forced their way into the house and was there to rob her, that somebody sent him there," the friend said.

Neighbors provided police with a description of the suspect, but no arrests have been made.
