YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Mark Mangino has been named assistant football coach at Youngstown State University.

For the former coach at Kansas it's a homecoming.  The 56-year-old is a YSU graduate and worked under Bill Narduzzi and Jim Tressel from 1985 through 1987.

Mangino has the titles of assistant head coach, tight end coach and recruiting coordinator.

He was the head coach at Kansas from 2002 to 2009 but resigned amid allegations of mistreatment of some players.  Details of the investigation were never released.

In 2007, Mangino was the consensus FBS national coach of the year after leading the Jayhawks to the highest national ranking at 7th since 1986.

The New Castle, Pennsylvania native has been out of coaching since 2009 and says he welcomes the opportunity to come back home.
