PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh and its southern suburbs cleaned up from flash flooding caused by heavy morning rains Wednesday and braced for more damage after a tornado briefly appeared north of the city in the late afternoon.
The afternoon tornado touched down south of New Castle at about 4:30 p.m. as a new line of heavy storms moved through the region.
The National Weather Service says that barns were damaged, but there were no immediate reports of injuries. The area is about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh.
Despite widespread flash flooding that damaged homes and businesses and stranded some motorists, city and Allegheny County officials reported no fatalities or serious injuries from the flooding.
