CANFIELD, Ohio - A name that's linked to the game of football is becoming linked to the game of politics. Bernie Kosar, Sr. is running for mayor of Canfield.

He is the  father of Bernie Kosar Jr., the former Boardman Spartan, Miami Hurricane and Cleveland Browns quarterback. 

Kosar Sr. will be the only candidate on the November ballot vying for the position of Canfield mayor according to the Mahoning County Board of Elections.

The elder Kosar is currently an auxiliary officer for the Canfield Mayor's Court.

According to the Canfield charter, the mayor is elected to a three year term and is considered the ceremonial head of the city.

The mayor is only permitted to serve no more than two consecutive terms in office.

The mayor is a voting member of council, and presides over mayor's court.

Current Mayor William Kay  is not seeking re-election.
