COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio's squirrel hunting season opens Sunday, Sept. 1.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says hunters can take as many as six squirrels a day. A department release says a cold winter may have reduced squirrel densities, but a good season is still expected for hunters of fox, gray, black and red squirrels in Ohio.

Legal hunting hours for squirrels are a half before sunrise to sunset daily. The season runs through Jan. 31, but is closed Dec. 2-8 for the state's deer gun season.
