Mercer man sentenced for Farrell bank robbery

MERCER, Pa. - A Mercer man has been sentenced for holding up bank in Farrell.
45-year-old Arthur Pate III was convicted of robbing the First National Bank last August when he handed the teller a note demanding money.
The teller did not see a weapon, and a portion of the stolen cash was recovered.
On Wednesday, a judge in Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced pate to State Intermediate Punishment (SIP).
SIP is a two year sentence designed mainly for individuals convicted of drug-related offenses.
During the two year sentence, the offender must serve at least seven months in a state correctional facility, a minimum of two months in a community based therapeutic community (half-way house which provides drug treatment programming), and at least six months in outpatient treatment.
If the offender fails to successfully complete the program, they will be sent back to the judge and be re-sentenced under traditional sentencing guidelines.
