CHARDON, Ohio - An Ohio appeals court has upheld the life sentence of a teenager who pleaded guilty in a deadly school shooting two years ago.

The 11th District Ohio Court of Appeals ruled unanimously Monday in favor of the sentence given to T.J. Lane.

Lane received three life sentences for killing three students in a cafeteria at

Chardon High School, east of Cleveland. He was 17 at the time.

Lane's defense attorneys argued that the Ohio law sending his case to adult court is unconstitutional and his life sentence amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.

At his sentencing, Lane wore a T-shirt with the word "killer" scrawled across it and gestured obscenely.

Prosecutors say Lane gave up his right to appeal his sentence when he voluntarily pleaded guilty.
