Former Southington band director charged with sexual battery

A grand jury in Cleveland is considering a charge of sexual battery filed against the former band director of Southington High School.
The case against 27-year-old Nathan Harris of Lakewood, Ohio was bound over to the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury on Wednesday.
Harris was arrested in a parking lot in the Rocky River MetroParks on Tuesday, after a park ranger says he found him engaged in a sex act with a 16-year-old student from Lakewood City Schools.
Harris is currently the Lakewood High School Band Director, but has held positions with other school districts, including band director at Southington High School.
A statement on the Lakewood Schools web page says, "The district is fully cooperating with law enforcement and is taking swift and decisive action to ban the employee from school property and from any communication with students and staff, pending an investigation. Per standard protocol, the employee has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation."
Lakewood School officials offered counseling sessions to students, and said they will be conducting their own investigation of Harris.
