COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Toledo's remaining abortion clinic is taking issue with a state hearing officer's decision that it must close its doors.
The Capital Care Clinic is urging the Ohio Department of Health director to reject the recommendation that it should be closed because it lacks a valid emergency-care agreement with a "local" hospital.
The clinic has argued that an agreement with a hospital more than 50 miles away, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, puts it in compliance with a new Ohio law passed last year that requires the transfer agreement. A state hearing officer disagreed and earlier this month recommended that the clinic's license be revoked.
The (Toledo) Blade reports that the clinic's appeal of the hearing officer's recommendation was released Wednesday.
