More than 200 geese euthanized at Mill Creek Park
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Mill Creek MetroParks officials took action on Thursday to reduce the number of Canada geese around the north end of the park in Youngstown.
Representatives from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Department of Agriculture rounded up 238 geese to have them euthanized.
Several park roads were closed as the crews began work at around 5:00 a.m. at the Lily Pond and had worked their way to the Lake Glacier Boat House by 6:30 a.m.
The geese were euthanized using carbon dioxide gas as recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Park officials say the roundup is the result of an overpopulation of geese, which have been causing a nuisance for park-goers.
The birds have reportedly caused damage to park property. Officials say they have fielded many complaints about geese droppings throughout the park.
