NILES, Ohio - Operators of Gabe's discount department stores announced on Tuesday that they plan to open a location in Niles in early November.

As 21 News reported last week, the store will fill the space once occupied by the former Tops grocery store in the McKinley Centre section of the Eastwood Mall Complex near the PetSmart and Big Lots stores.

According to information provided by the Eastwood Mall, the new 64,900 square foot store will feature designer brand fashions, bath and beauty products, home décor, and housewares at discount prices.

Arthur Gabriel opened their first store in 1961. They were inspired by their father, Z.G. Gabriel, who began driving through the coal towns of Western Pennsylvania in the 1920's selling clothing from his truck.

Gabriel Brothers, which is naming its newer stores Gabe's, currently operates 39 stores in six states, including a location on Route 224 at South Avenue in Boardman
