Giant Eagle closing child activity centers in seven Valley stores

PITTSBURGH - Giant Eagle is reducing the number of stores that offer a special place where children can play as their parents shop.
The supermarket chain has announced that it is closing Eagle's Nest activity centers at 61 stores.
The closings include centers at the Girard, Howland and Jamestown stores in Trumbull County, the centers in the Boardman Community Center on South Avenue, and the Canfield Store in Mahoning County.
Fourteen Eagle's Nests are also being shut down in Pennsylvania, including the Hermitage store in Mercer County, and the New Castle store in Lawrence County.
According to a statement from the company, Giant Eagle is making a transition to a more regionalized approach to its Eagle's Nest offering.
The supermarket chain says that customers who rely on this service will find one convenient for them.
Local stores that continue to offer the children's activity centers include Churchill Commons, Niles and the Warren Plaza in Trumbull County, and the Calcutta store in Columbiana County.
Giant Eagle says it is working closely with Eagle's Nest Team Members affected by these closings to place those interested in open positions throughout their current stores or in other locations.
