NILES, Ohio - People who live in the Niles neighborhood where Marie Belcastro, 94, was found dead Tuesday are still shocked by the death of someone they thought was adored by everyone.

They say she was kind and outgoing and always liked talking to people. Many neighbors placed flowers and stuffed animals near her doorstep Wednesday.

No one can believe what happened to her.

"Marie was a sweet lady. She was always smiling, always outside picking up her yard. Always interacting with the neighbors, especially the children," says neighbor Jamie Mullane.

Jacenta Evans, a teenager who lived across the street from Marie, says, "She was a real sweet Italian old lady. She used to give me candy and I helped her pick up sticks in the yard a lot. She always told me cute stories about how her dad built all the houses on her street."

They also know the suspect. They say he was known for causing trouble in the area.

"I knew his family, a good family. Good parents. He was just troubled. For what reason I have no idea," says Mullane.

Jacenta Evans thinks she might have been able to stop what had happened.

"I was his pretty much only friend that actually looked out for him and tried to put him on the right path. He was actually knocking on my door before he did that, looking for me. I feel like I could have hung out with him and maybe he wouldn't have done that, but I wasn't home at the time."
