Vintage luxury airliner booking flights at Youngstown Warren Regional Airport

VIENNA TWP., Ohio - Those of you who were awed by Thunder in the Valley one year ago, and can't wait until the air show returns to the Youngstown Air Reserve Station next year may still get their aviation fix next week.
The Youngstown Warren Regional Airport will play host to a vintage 1928 Ford Tri-Motor that will offer flights to the public Thursday, May 28 through Sunday, May 31.
During the Ford Tri-Motor Tour hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and sponsored by the Northeast Ohio Ford Dealers Association, passengers will travel back to the early days of what was considered luxurious commercial air travel.
Also known affectionately as “The Tin Goose”, the Ford Tri-Motor was the world's first mass-produced luxury airliner.
The Ford Tri-Motor is also said to be the plane that put a man on the moon. Ohio born Astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man who walked on the moon, began his love affair with flight as he took his first ride in this very same airliner. It happened at the Ernie Hall Airfield in Warren back in 1936.
The Tri-Motor was first built by the Ford Motor Company in the late 1920s. This Ford Tri-Motor was constructed in 1928 and has an intriguing history, with roles ranging from service as airliner over the Grand Canyon in the 1930s and later in Honduras, to a showpiece as part of the legendary Harrah's auto and aircraft collection in Nevada.
After a long period as a museum showpiece, the aircraft was purchased by the Liberty Aviation Museum in 2014 and restored to flight status.
This Tri-Motor can carry up to 10 passengers at a time, and every seat has a window. Passengers are encouraged to bring a camera.
Tickets purchased in advance are $70 for adults; walk up tickets are $75 and $50 for children 17 years old and under.
Flights will be held on Thursday, May 28 from 2 until 5 p.m., and from Friday thru Sunday, May 29 thru the 31, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Flights may be booked through the reservation system at www.flytheford.org, EAA's Tri-Motor tour website.
Booking is also available via phone by calling 1-800-843-3612 or 877-952-5395.
