City of Youngstown to eliminate sewer overflows into Mill Creek Park by 2033
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The city of Youngstown is working to eliminate overflows from it's combine sanitary and storm sewer system into Mill Creek Park.
On Monday, Ohio EPA officials confirmed to 21 News that overflows of raw sewage into Mill Creek Park's Lake Newport depleted oxygen levels, killing hundreds of fish.
Just this year, the Ohio EPA approved Youngstown's plan to eliminate the overflows into the park. Youngstown's Public Works Director says there are 13 overflow points into Mill Creek Park. Over the next 18 years, the city will gradually eliminate each one.
"The design is scheduled to begin in the beginning of 2018 and throughout the design process and four specific phases of work, it should be completed in 2033," said Chuch Shasho.
