Ohio Attorney General has message from Colorado on Issue 3

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine is talking about his recent trip to Colorado to research it's experience since the legalization of marijuana. DeWine outlined his findings during a news conference with local leaders in law enforcement.
The Attorney General says that while in Colorado he met with law enforcement, doctors and educators find out what message they would have for Ohio on Issue 3.
"Don't do it, don't make the same mistake that Colorado did, " was message said DeWine.
Dewine says he learned that 43-percent of the marijuana being sold in Colorado is edible in the form of cookies, brownies and candy, and used photographs to illustrate the problem.
"These are Gummy Bears with marijuana and as you can see there's no difference if you look at them, it's the same way with a brownie, same way with a cookie," DeWine said.
As a result, Dewine says the number of children receiving treatment for ingesting marijuana is up dramatically. He also related other disturbing marijuana related statistics from Colorado. School expulsions and suspensions up 40 percent, driving under the influence, traffic deaths and work injuries all up by more than 80 percent.
He says illicit sales of marijuana are still a major problem in Colorado.
"Two thirds of the marijuana sold in Colorado is sold on the black market, " said DeWine.
That statistic is most troubling to Youngstown Police Chief Robin Lees.
"If you have an illicit drug market you have guns and violence and we don't need any more of that," Chief Lees said.
Sheriff Jerry Greene says theres lessons to be learned from Colorado.
"I don't know what better template that law enforcement, the Attorney General and everybody can use than other states that are bascially screaming at us, don't do this, this is a mistake," Green said.
Attorney General DeWine is on a four day swing around Ohio to educate voters about Issue 3.
